Dear Channahon 17 Families,
We are pleased to share an exciting update regarding recent improvements at our junior high gymnasium. When students return on Tuesday, they will see that a new wall has been installed around the elevated public track (CJHS side only). Additionally, security print has been installed on all glass visible from the field house, making it impossible to see into the school gymnasium. This project was completed as part of our ongoing commitment to student, staff, and campus safety.
As you likely know, the elevated track above our gymnasium is accessible to the public during and after the school day through the Heritage Crossing Field House. The design for this space was developed 25 years ago as a cooperative project between the School District and the Park District and has been a wonderful feature connecting our community to the school.
We would like to commend and sincerely thank the Park District for the efforts they have made over the years to screen members and prevent access by unknown guests in order to help provide a safe environment for our students. The Park District understands the importance of school safety and has been supportive of our decision to take this additional measure to address an identified area of potential vulnerability.
This project provides both a visual and physical barrier that enhances security while maintaining the welcoming atmosphere that Channahon Junior High is known for. In addition to its primary safety purpose, the wall also serves as a celebration of our rich tradition of excellence. The interior portion of the wall, viewable from the CJHS gymnasium, proudly displays photos of our many successful past and present teams and clubs behind the text, “BUILDING CHAMPIONS SINCE 1893.” Please see below for additional photos.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to create a safe, secure, and positive environment in Channahon 17. We are excited for our students and staff to see this new addition to our school!
Sincerely,
