For Breanna Dosek, that story begins with a passion for providing opportunities for her students. Here’s her “why.”
"I love being a special education teacher in CSD17 because I get to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with disabilities. I am passionate about helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and reach their fullest potential. I love celebrating their growth, both big and small, and being someone who believes in them every step of the way. Building strong relationships and collaborating with families is also an important part of what makes this work so rewarding. I believe that when families and educators work together, students have the best opportunity to succeed. Being able to serve the community I love and grew up in makes my role even more special. CSD17 feels like home, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape me. Most of all, I love knowing that the work I do can positively impact a student’s life, both in and out of the classroom."

Our second graders are diving into all things pumpkin! From exploring a pumpkin with their five senses to discovering its parts and designing and building their own creations, these little learners are proving that a pumpkin can be so much more than just a fall decoration! 🧡🌱

Today, we’re getting to know Carrie DeCaprio, Kindergarten Teacher, and hearing the “why” behind what they do. ❤️
"I became an educator because I loved school and learning as a kid. I have found memories of meeting life long friends. I used to help my mom set up her classroom every August before the students would come back to school. One year my mom was even my teacher! I love to watch Kindergarten students grow and soak up all the new knowledge. They are eager to learn and make new friends. The students go from recognizing and writing their name to reading and writing sentences. They are sweet and cheerful! CSD17 is a wonderful place to work! Everyone is friendly, shares ideas, and is goal-originated. When life gets hard there is a team to cheer you on."

Our exceptional teachers are improving their practice with Lexia 'LETRS' Training at NBG, and 'LinkiT!' training at CJHS!
Our kindergartners were busy bees in STEM class ! 🐝✨
Our little coders learned that programming is all about giving super clear, step-by-step directions. Their challenge was to map out a path on a grid and press the arrow buttons to code a Bee-Bot to travel right onto a target picture! They learned its okay to make mistakes and with every try, they started to see more and more success!

Students learned steps to take during an emergency, like staying low to the ground and carefully feeling closed doors for heat before opening them.
To practice what they learned, classrooms were transformed into a hands-on practice zone! Desks turned into safety tunnels as students crawled low across the room, putting their new skills directly into action.
Ask your student what they learned, and take a few minutes tonight to review your own family’s home fire safety plan together! 🚨🏠
