Superintendent Minute: Coaches, Clubs, and Connection

This young school year has already been filled with unprecedented athletic success. Our baseball and softball teams proudly competed at the State Tournament, our Girls’ Cross Country team placed 10th in State, and our Boys’ Cross Country team captured the State Championship for the first time in our district’s long history. These remarkable achievements reflect the talent, dedication, and teamwork that define Channahon 17.

It’s clear that our athletic program is exceptional. Yet, our extracurricular success extends far beyond competitive sports. Starting as early as grade 3, students have a wide variety of activities to explore. Our band and choir programs continue to grow and inspire audiences at every performance. Our young robotics team, now in only its second year, is already generating tremendous excitement. Meanwhile, our gifted theater students are hard at work preparing for The Wizard of Oz, which promises to be another outstanding production. Whether athletic, academic, artistic, or altruistic in nature, there truly is a club or activity for every student in Channahon 17.

Participation in extracurricular activities offers two significant benefits. First, research consistently shows that students who are involved in these programs tend to earn higher grades, build stronger social connections, and develop essential life skills. These experiences enrich learning and strengthen confidence. Second, and equally important, students are provided an opportunity to connect with caring adults who understand the power of meaningful relationships. Our staff members willingly give their time after school to invest in our students, offering guidance, encouragement, and love. What an incredible gift!

I encourage you and your child to explore the many afterschool opportunities available this year! I would like to express thanks to our dedicated coaches, directors, club sponsors, and all the adults who make these experiences possible. You help make Channahon 17 a truly special place for our kids and families.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

Warmly,
