Channahon School District 17 is governed by a locally elected, seven-member Board of Education. School board members are volunteers and are elected to four-year terms in April of odd-numbered years. They receive no monetary compensation for attending meetings and spending countless additional hours working to provide the best educational environment for children while working to maintain a balanced budget. The Board of Education has control over local school matters, subject to limitations imposed by state and federal law. The Board of Education also sets educational goals and polices for the schools based on state laws and community values. Other board responsibilities include:

  • Authorizing the employment of staff members and setting their salaries.

  • Determining educational standards and goals and monitoring district performance.

  • Authorizing curriculum development and revision.

  • Adopting and monitoring a budget sufficient to carry out the district’s goals.

  • Authorizing expenditures.

If you would like to contact the Board, please send an email to csd17schoolboard@csd17.org

All CSD 17 board members are in compliance with School Board Policy 2:120, Board Member Development. Certification copies are on file at the District Office.
